What's it called when you do the same thing over and over expecting different results? It's called the Giants offense, that's what.
(Thank you. I'll be here all week. Try the veal.)
The Giants have continued to send Eli Manning out onto the field, game after game, expecting something to change with this offense. It has not changed, and no, it probably won't with rookie Kyle Lauletta throwing behind this awful offensive line in a season that is dangerously close to spiraling out of control.

But what do the Giants have to lose besides more games?
It's time to bench Manning and play Lauletta, the fourth-round pick out of Richmond. Or, for that matter, give journeyman Alex Tanney a shot and see if the small-college quarterback whose claim to fame is a "trick-shot" video on YouTube can make something happen.
This latest loss, a 20-13 yawner to the rival Redskins on Sunday at MetLife Stadium, was another Willie Mays in a Mets uniform performance by Manning. It's sad to see. He isn't getting much help from that line, but Manning seems to fall down at the first hint of pressure. He doesn't even look down the field half the time.

Manning had two interceptions on Sunday, including a terrible throw in the first half with the Giants in position to tie the game. He simply threw behind his target, with D.J. Swearinger breaking on the ball to pick it off. His receivers had a few killer drops, too -- more on that in a minute -- but the quarterback play has been indefensible.
The zip on the ball. The confidence under pressure. The ability to elevate the people around him. It's just not there any more.
Giants fans hoping for a happy ending to Manning's wonderful 15-year career aren't going to see it. That's been clear for a while now. He is headed to the bench sooner than later, and given that this team signaled that it is tear-down mode by trading a pair of starters last week, it might as well be sooner.
